COVID-19 UPDATES

May 1 2022

With COVID numbers down, we are currently in a mask=optional status. We will continue our rigorous cleaning protocols and keep classes as safe as possible by social distancing as best we can.

Email January 3 2022

Happy New Year! We are looking forward to welcoming you back for regular classes tomorrow. In light of current news and recommendations from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, we will be strongly encouraging the following:

Monitor children for symptoms before arriving for class
Report an absence through the parent portal, or call, if your student has been exposed to COVID-19 or is exhibiting symptoms
If staying to watch class, please wear a face mask
Help keep crowding in the lobby down by dropping school-age children off, or waiting in your car
Encourage children to frequently use hand sanitizer or wash hands

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics:

Face masks have been shown to be well tolerated by most people who wear them for exercise; the mask may need to be removed under certain circumstances. Face masks should not be worn during certain situations in competitive cheerleading and gymnastics because of the risk that the mask may get caught on objects and become a choking hazard or accidently impair vision. For competitive cheer, face mask use should be emphasized when individuals are within 3 feet of each other and risk for mask displacement is low. For gymnastics, the face mask should be removed when athletes are on the apparatus.

While wearing a face mask may help increase protection against the spread of COVID-19, we will continue to leave the choice to mask children to each family. The frequency of kids handling their masks creates new risks of spreading germs so please consider your child’s needs and abilities.

Our classes at Cutting Edge allow athletes to stay reasonably distanced for the majority of class time. In addition, equipment is disinfected between classes, and athletes are encouraged to use hand sanitizer frequently.

We want to keep all of our students and staff healthy so we can continue to offer opportunities for a healthy, active lifestyle. Therefore, we are strongly recommending that all students, staff and visitors wear a face covering while at Cutting Edge, regardless of vaccination status.

Email June 22 2021

We can't wait to see your happy faces next week! This email was sent to families today....

We are so excited to finally be returning to some normalcy! All emergency orders will be lifted effective Tuesday, June 22. Beginning next week, you are encouraged to continue wearing masks if it feels more comfortable, but we will no longer require them for children or their guests, and staff.

Testing for competitive athletes will no longer be required.

Capacity restrictions will also be lifted, however we do still encourage you to drop your children off whenever possible. Our lobby can become very crowded quickly! July and August are typically slower months for us, so we plan to begin opening new classes in September.

We are looking forward to seeing your smiling faces next week! Thank you so much for your cooperation and patience while we navigated this strange year.

Email May 2021
As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease up around the state, we would like to update you on changes to our policies and protocols at Cutting Edge.

Effective on Tuesday, June 1 you will no longer need to complete the COVID screening questionnaire prior to arrival. Our regular attendance taken in class will be an accurate enough record in the event we would need to participate in contact tracing.

Please continue to monitor for COVID symptoms before coming in. If ever in question, err on the side of caution, report your child’s absence and receive a Make-Up Class Token.

Masks will still be required for anyone in the building.
Competitive athletes ages 13-19 will still be required to complete weekly testing to attend practice (Hopefully, this will lift with the new order on July 1).

Note: Cutting Edge will be closed June 29-July 4 for Fourth of July break.

Effective Monday, July 5, masks will no longer be required. While some may still choose to wear a mask, it will be strictly optional for our families, students, and staff.

We will continue our rigorous cleaning protocols and keep classes as safe as possible by social distancing as best we can. We do not anticipate adding new classes until September and our current class schedules will remain the same throughout the summer.

We are so grateful you have chosen us to be part of your child’s life and look forward to seeing their cute faces really soon!

Email January 2021
We are so excited to welcome you back!  With the new year upon us we wanted to give you some important updates about when classes will be resuming.

The current emergency order, which is restricting recreational classes, will expire on January 15, 2021.  We plan to resume all classes beginning January 18.  If you are receiving this email, your family has one or more enrollment.

We will be billing active enrollments for 50% tuition on Friday, January 15.  Please review your account and make any necessary changes before then.  Accounts will be invoiced on Tuesday, January 13.  You will be notified by email when these charges are placed on your account.  If the order is extended beyond the 15th, we will NOT be billing your account.

We will be resuming classes with limited enrollment and many classes are already full.  If you decide to unenroll, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make the class spot available to others.  Your makeup tokens will remain on your account to use when you return.

DECEMBER 7, 2020 EMERGENCY ORDER UPDATE - PAUSE EXTENDED

According to today's announcement from the governor and the MDHHS, the emergency order to pause classes will continue through December 20.  This will bring us to our scheduled closure for the holidays.  Sadly, Cutting Edge classes will not resume this month.  We are so sorry for this and hope, with all of our might, that we can reopen in January.

Keep your eyes open for information about Drop and Shop Camps the week of December 21.  You will be able to pre-register your child to spend a few hours at Cutting Edge while you have some much needed time to prep for the holiday!  Please also consider gift certificates as Christmas gifts.

We are so grateful for the support and encouragement you have been to us during this unbelievably trying year.  We look forward to seeing your family in the new year.

All our best,

Kim and Glenn Hayden, and the entire Cutting Edge Team

Cutting Edge will have employees complete a questionnaire covering the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and their exposure to people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. When obtainable, a no-touch thermometer will be used for temperature screening of employees. Cutting Edge_will similarly screen parents and any other individuals entering the worksite.

      • Has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine that reduces fevers AND
      • Other symptoms have improved AND
      • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

The specific instructions for employee reporting signs and symptoms of COVID-19/illness are as follows:

    • Call or text, Kim Hayden if you experience symptoms before your work shift.
    • If a staff member visits a healthcare provider and another cause is identified for the symptoms, the individual may return to care once symptoms improve and they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine that reduces fevers.
  • If another cause is not identified, the individual should be tested for COVID-19.
  • If a test is not done, the individual should stay home until:
    • Has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine that reduces fevers AND
    • Other symptoms have improved AND
    • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

Cutting Edge will not discharge, discipline, or otherwise retaliate against employees who stay at home or who leave work when they are at particular risk of infecting others with COVID-19.

When an employee or child is identified with a confirmed case of COVID-19, within 24 hours, Kim Hayden  will notify both the local public health department, and any co-workers, or families who may have come into contact with the person who is the confirmed case of COVID-19. When notifying coworkers and families, Cutting Edge will not reveal the name or identity of the confirmed case.  Cutting Edge will follow county health department recommendations for suspending or continuing operations for the affected cohort.

  1. Facility will close for 24 hours for deep cleaning
  2. All students and staff in the affected cohort will need to self-quarantine for 14 days from initial exposure. They may return after 14 days and criteria described above are met.
  3. A credit will be placed on the family’s Cutting Edge account for any paid tuition for sessions missed during this self-quarantine event.

Cutting Edge will allow employees with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 to return to the workplace only after they are no longer infectious according to the latest guidelines from the CDC.

Protocols and Responsibilities for Return

We are excited to announce that Cutting Edge is open. We understand that this reopening may come with some uneasiness and concern.  We would like to share our plans to keep CEA as safe as possible for your athletes and our staff.  We are confident that we can all do our part to share responsibilities to maintain a safe environment.

protocols and responsibilites for return

We understand that these have been confusing and frightening times.  We want to assure you that your family’s safety and health are very important to us.  By following guidelines set forth by the CDC, WHO and USAG we believe we are doing our part to protect our athletes and our staff.

Changes we have made:

  • Updated risk of injury waiver
  • Touch-less faucets and light switches in all restrooms.
  • Touch-less water bottle refill station
  • Touch-less hand sanitizing stations throughout the gym
  • Team entrance:  Team athletes will enter and exit the building from the door at the south side of the building.
  • Staggered schedule to minimize the number of people entering the building at one time.
  • Lobby viewing will be limited.  Parents are encouraged to wait in cars, or return for pick up.

What you can expect:

  • Temperature checks prior to entering the building
  • All staff and students will complete a self-screening survey every time they come into the gym
  • Frequent hand sanitizer before and after shared equipment use.
  • Class cohorts.  Students will be grouped and stay with their group for the entire session time.
  • Limited lobby viewing until the state reaches Phase 6.

For Teams:

  • Minimal shared equipment.  Athletes will be expected to bring their own spray bottle, hand sanitizer, *chalk in a personal container, bath mat (for applying chalk), water bottles and snacks (no vending will be available).
    • *Cutting Edge will provide the first block of chalk to each athlete for their personal use.  Replacement chalk blocks will be available for sale at cost from the front desk ($4+tax/block)
  • Practice cohorts.  Athletes will be grouped and stay with their group for the entire practice time.
  • Maintaining at least 6-feet of physical distance whenever possible.  (Skills will be kept basic for the first month to avoid spotting).
  • Physical distancing waiting stations.  Marked spaces 6-feet apart throughout the gym to indicate where to stand while waiting.
  • Face Coverings:  All coaches and athletes should have masks.  Masks should be worn upon check-in and entrance.  Coaches will wear face covering when physical distancing cannot be maintained or close contact is necessary (ie., spotting).  It is important to note that coaches will do what is necessary to protect an athlete from physical injury first and may not have adequate time to apply a mask when responding quickly to a situation.  “A cloth face covering may not protect the wearer, but it may keep the wearer from spreading the virus to others.”-CDC, May 22, 2020
  • Rigorous daily cleaning schedule using plant-based cleaner + certified neutral range pH disinfectant
